Don't Let Republicans Take Food From Kids

Republicans in Congress are trying to slash food assistance for families who need it most — and millions of children are in the crosshairs.

Right now, House Republicans are pushing a cruel new budget plan that would gut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), shifting billions in costs to states and making it harder for families to access life-saving support. Their proposal includes stricter work requirements, deep funding cuts, and a cynical attempt to disguise these changes as “reform.”

All of this comes just months after Republicans passed massive tax breaks for the wealthy and big corporations — blowing a hole in the budget, then using that deficit to justify taking food away from hungry children.

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities warns that these cuts could push millions of people off SNAP entirely, including vulnerable children, seniors, and people with disabilities. Incredibly, some Republicans have even bragged about how “beautiful” these cuts are — while ignoring the very real harm they will inflict on children across the country.

This is a moral emergency. No child should go hungry in the richest country in the world. Congress must reject these heartless cuts and protect SNAP benefits — because feeding kids should never be up for debate.
