Don’t Cut Our Care to Fund Another War

Congress is floating a dangerous idea: cutting Americans’ healthcare to help pay for the war with Iran. This isn’t a finalized proposal — but it’s on the table right now, and we need to stop it before it becomes reality.

Reports from Axios and other outlets reveal that Republican lawmakers are discussing using healthcare cuts as one of several ways to offset the enormous cost of military action. That should alarm every single one of us. Families are already struggling to afford care. Hospitals — especially in rural areas — are already on the brink. Cutting healthcare now would push millions closer to crisis.

We’ve seen this playbook before. Just last year, Republicans passed the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which included roughly $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts while delivering massive tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans. Those cuts are already putting hundreds of hospitals at risk and threatening care for seniors, children, and people with disabilities.

Now, instead of reversing course, some in Congress are considering doubling down — taking even more from patients and families to fund another war.

This is where public pressure matters. Members of Congress are watching closely to see whether the public will accept this tradeoff — or rise up against it. When constituents speak out in large numbers, lawmakers change course. When we stay silent, harmful ideas become policy.
