Denounce Trump's Plan to Decimate National Forests

Donald Trump is launching an all-out attack on our nation’s forests, trying to rewrite the rules to give corporate logging interests free rein over millions of acres of public lands.

His administration is pushing forward sweeping new executive orders that would gut existing protections and clear the way for mass deforestation at a scale not seen in decades. These moves would weaken critical safeguards meant to prevent reckless logging, reduce oversight, and make it easier for timber companies to exploit public lands with little accountability.

"They’re not hiding the ball," said Blaine Miller-McFeeley, a senior legislative representative at Earthjustice. "It’s just about trying to cut as much of our forests as possible to line the pockets of timber industry executives."

Trump is trying to sell these orders as a response to wildfire risks, but the science is clear—unchecked logging will not prevent fires, but it will destroy irreplaceable ecosystems, endanger wildlife, and accelerate climate change.

National forests belong to all of us, not to corporate special interests, and they play a critical role in protecting our environment. They filter drinking water for millions of Americans, absorb carbon pollution, and provide a home for countless species. But under Trump’s plan, these forests would be torn apart for short-term profit, with devastating consequences for future generations.

To make matters worse, Trump’s massive cuts to the U.S. Forest Service have already left our national forests struggling. Fewer rangers, conservation experts, and fire management specialists mean that forests are more vulnerable than ever. Now, instead of restoring funding and strengthening protections, Trump is doubling down on destruction, attempting to rewrite the rules to benefit logging executives at the public’s expense.

This plan likely violates federal law—but unless Congress or the courts step in, Trump’s reckless agenda could move forward unchecked. Lawmakers must immediately act to block these attacks and protect our national forests from irreversible damage. Sign the petition to demand that Congress and the courts defend our public lands before it’s too late!
