Denounce Trump's Mass Layoffs at the Department of Education

Donald Trump and his Education Secretary, Linda McMahon, are waging an all-out war on public education. The administration has begun mass layoffs at the Department of Education, gutting critical programs, closing regional offices, and leaving educators, students, and families without essential federal support. More than 1,300 workers have already been laid off, devastating the agency’s ability to assist schools nationwide.

Teachers, parents, and students across the country are already feeling the devastating effects of this reckless decision. "These mass firings are not just an attack on the dedicated professionals who serve our schools—they are an attack on our public education system itself," said Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers. "Stripping away resources, closing offices, and weakening oversight will only hurt the students who need support the most."

These cuts will have catastrophic consequences. Slashing federal education funding and eliminating staff will make it harder for schools to provide special education services, enforce civil rights protections, and support low-income students.

The Department of Education plays a crucial role in ensuring that all students—no matter where they live or how much their families earn—get access to quality education. Now, Trump and McMahon are gutting it to serve their extreme anti-public education agenda.

Congress must intervene to stop these reckless layoffs and ensure that the Department of Education remains fully staffed and fully functional. The future of millions of students depends on it.
