Denounce Trump's DOJ for Giving Felons Access to Guns

Trump’s Department of Justice just made it easier for people with felony convictions to get guns again — and more Americans could die because of it.

Attorney General Todd Blanche has finalized a new rule creating a pathway for people barred from owning firearms because of criminal convictions to apply to have their gun rights restored. In a country already devastated by gun violence, opening a new federal pipeline to put firearms back into more hands is reckless, dangerous, and unacceptable.

Tell Attorney General Todd Blanche and the Department of Justice: Reverse this dangerous rule and stop making it easier for people with felony convictions to regain access to guns.

This is part of a broader Trump agenda to weaken firearm protections and treat public safety as an obstacle to gun rights absolutism. The DOJ has already moved to roll back gun regulations and declined to defend other firearm restrictions. Now it is creating an online process to restore gun access for people who were legally prohibited from possessing firearms.

Nearly 45,000 people died from gun violence in the United States in 2024. Families are already burying loved ones. Students already practice active shooter drills. Survivors already live with wounds that never fully heal. 

And instead of doing everything possible to keep deadly weapons away from people who may pose a danger, Trump’s DOJ is bending over backward for the gun lobby.
