Denounce the EPA's Reversal of Policy on Greenhouse Gases

Donald Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) announced it will reverse the 2009 declaration that greenhouse gases (GHGs) cause harm to public health and the environment. This dangerous, counterfactual move directly undermines the scientific consensus on climate change and threatens the health, safety, and livelihoods of millions of Americans. 

Climate change is not a distant threat—it is a present-day crisis impacting communities across the United States and the globe. From the devastating wildfires that ravaged California, to the record-breaking storms that batter the Gulf Coast, to the catastrophic floods that overwhelmed North Carolina, the effects of climate change are undeniable and a very present reality. Every year, we are witnessing more extreme weather events, with dire consequences for our homes, our infrastructure, and our local economies.

The EPA’s decision to reverse its position on greenhouse gases is not only scientifically unfounded but morally indefensible. The agency’s job is to protect the health and well-being of American citizens, not to ignore the clear and present dangers posed by the climate crisis to provide cover for dirty energy. By ignoring the harm caused by greenhouse gases, the EPA is failing dramatically in its mission–which is “protect human health and the environment.”
