Denounce Islamophobic Attacks on Zohran Mamdani

Republican lawmakers are fueling dangerous attacks against New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.

Mamdani, a progressive leader and one of the few Muslim elected officials in the country, just made history by winning the Democratic primary for New York City Mayor. But instead of respecting the will of voters, GOP members of Congress have unleashed a barrage of Islamophobic and racist rhetoric, peddling conspiracy theories simply because of his faith.

These attacks are part of a broader effort to silence progressive voices, intimidate communities of color, and normalize bigotry in government.

We cannot stay silent while MAGA extremists and Republican leaders stoke fear and division. That's why we're calling on Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican leaders to denounce the Islamophobic attacks against Zohran Mamdani.

Representative Elise Stefanik disgracefully called Mamdani an "antisemitic, jihadist, Communist candidate." Marjorie Taylor Greene escalated the hate by posting an AI-generated image of the Statue of Liberty draped in a burqa. Representative Nancy Mace outrageously tied Mamdani to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and Representative Andy Ogles even called for him to be deported—despite the fact that he is a U.S. citizen.

As Reps. Andre Carson of Indiana, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Lateefah Simon of California said in a statement on Friday, "The vile anti-Muslim and racist attacks directed at Zohran Mamdani are unacceptable and dangerous."

House Republican leadership must condemn these Islamophobic attacks and hold their members accountable. Their silence enables hate. Their inaction invites violence.

Add your name to demand Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican leaders denounce the Islamophobic attacks against Zohran Mamdani and take real steps to combat anti-Muslim bigotry. The world is watching—let's show them our values of justice, inclusion, and equality are stronger than hate.
