When Donald Trump appeared before Congress last week–amidst the chaos and destruction he and Elon Musk are causing to the federal government–only one Democratic Member of Congress loudly protested: Rep. Al Green of Texas. And yet, instead of rewarding Green’s courage and bravery, ten Democrats joined Republicans in formally censuring him for his protest. (See the list at the end of the page.) Sign the petition to denounce the actions of these 10 Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives who voted to censure Rep. Al Green (D-TX) for his principled protest against Donald Trump. This censure is not only an attack on Rep. Green’s courage in confronting Trump’s lies directly, but also an affront to the values of accountability and justice that the Democratic Party purports to uphold. As Rep. Green courageously stood and spoke to protest the deep and ongoing harm caused by Donald Trump’s presidency, it is vital to remember what was happening outside the Capitol: the unprecedented damage that Trump and Musk are inflicting on federal agencies, public trust, and democratic institutions in just the first 8 weeks of his term. From undermining the EPA and other regulatory bodies to his numerous attempts to dismantle other key federal agencies, Trump’s administration has wreaked havoc on our nation's foundations. His policies continue to threaten climate progress, our communities’ health, and our democracy. Green’s actions of protest should be a model for Democrats–not a source of condemnation. Rep. Green's protest was not only justified—it was necessary. By voting to censure him, these 10 Democratic members have chosen to side with political expediency over moral courage and accountability. We must call on all elected officials to reject such punitive actions against those who challenge the status quo in defense of justice and truth if Trump and his allies are going to be held accountable. Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC) was not censured when he shouted “You lie” at President Obama. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) was not formally censured when she interrupted President Biden repeatedly during the State of the Union. But these ten Democrats joined Republicans in censoring Al Green (D TX). Sign the petition to denounce the actions of these 10 members and tell them to publicly reverse their decision and to support Rep. Green's right to stand against the damaging actions of the Trump administration. Those who voted in favor of censuring Representative Green included: Ed Case of Hawaii Tom Suozzi of New York Jim Costa of California Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington Jared Moskowitz of Florida Ami Bera of California Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania Marcy Kaptur of Ohio Laura Gillen of New York Jim Himes of Connecticut
