Demand Senate Action on Trump's Illegal FTC Firings

On March 18, Donald Trump illegally fired Democratic Federal Trade Commissioners Rebecca Kelly Slaughter and Alvaro Bedoya. This defies nearly 90 years of Supreme Court precedent.

Independent federal agencies like the FTC are essential to stopping scams, blocking mega-mergers and protecting people — and any effort to undermine that independence is a direct assault on our system of government. Add your name to our petition calling on the Senate to stop Trump’s illegal power grabs immediately and do whatever it takes to restore constitutional order.

TO MEMBERS OF THE SENATE:

The firing of FTC Commissioners Rebecca Kelly Slaughter and Alvaro Bedoya is a brazen attack on the agency’s independence, on the checks and balances that support our democracy, and on the people most in need of consumer protections.

The FTC’s job is to protect people against corporate abuse and crack down on unfair and deceptive practices and scams. Getting rid of independent agencies is a textbook tactic of authoritarian regimes across the world. It’s a direct assault on democratic governance — one that will severely harm the most vulnerable among us.

As your constituent, I strongly urge you to vote “no” on all nominees, halt the Senate’s business — and do whatever it takes to restore constitutional order in this nation.
