Congress Must Reverse the Damage DOGE Caused

DOGE may have collapsed, but the harm it inflicted on critical public programs is still unfolding — and Congress must act now to undo it.

The Department of Government Efficiency, created by Donald Trump and led by Elon Musk, was sold as a bold cost-cutting experiment. Instead, it gutted essential services, slashed oversight, and dismantled programs with no transparency or measurable benefit. Reuters reports that DOGE “doesn’t exist” anymore as a functioning entity — months before its mandate was set to expire — leaving chaos, confused agencies, and unfinished initiatives in its wake. Its abrupt disbandment only highlights its failure.

Experts and analysts agree that the project delivered little of what it promised. Multiple investigations have found that DOGE produced only a tiny fraction of its advertised savings while targeting agencies like the Millennium Challenge Corporation for sudden cuts and layoffs. Foreign aid, environmental, and consumer-protection programs suffered losses they’re still struggling to recover from. The public didn’t get efficiency — we got disruption and deeper inequities.

Congress must move quickly to reverse DOGE-era directives, restore staffing and funding to damaged programs, and demand full public accounting of every action DOGE initiated.

Add your name and demand that Congress repair the damage, restore accountability, and rebuild the public services DOGE undermined.
