Congress Must Protect Workers

Donald Trump just launched one of the most sweeping attacks on federal workers in decades. His new executive orders terminate collective bargaining agreements and union rights for tens of thousands of federal employees, including those at the U.S. Patent Office, NASA, and the National Weather Service.

These orders build on Trump’s first round of anti-union executive actions issued in March, which already targeted federal workers’ bargaining rights. Now, he has expanded those attacks even further, escalating his campaign to silence unions, weaken protections, and give management unchecked power.

Federal employees protect our communities, support scientific innovation, and keep Americans safe. Stripping them of their union rights is nothing more than an effort to punish workers for organizing and to dismantle the fundamental freedoms of America’s workforce.

But there’s a way to fight back. Congress has the power to rescind Trump’s union-busting orders by passing the Protect America’s Workers Act. This legislation would restore collective bargaining rights for federal employees, overturn Trump’s executive actions, and reaffirm that no president should have the power to strip away workers’ rights with the stroke of a pen.

Leaders like Rep. Jared Golden and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries are already working with unions and pushing to force a vote. But they need grassroots support to make it happen.
