Congress Must Investigate This Media Merger

Americans deserve a diverse and independent media landscape—not one controlled by an ever-shrinking handful of powerful corporations.

As reports emerge about a proposed merger involving Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, serious concerns are being raised about what yet another wave of media consolidation could mean for journalism, workers, consumers, and democracy itself.

When media giants merge, the consequences are often predictable: fewer independent voices, less local news coverage, job cuts, higher costs for consumers, and greater concentration of power among wealthy executives and investors. At a time when trust in institutions is already strained, allowing even more control over information to be concentrated in fewer hands should alarm everyone.
