Congress Must Investigate ICE’s 4,400 Illegal Detentions Now

Since October, courts have ruled more than 4,400 times that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement illegally jailed people — and ICE just kept doing it.

This explosive finding, first reported by Reuters, comes as immigration detention has surged roughly 75% since January 2025, fueled by Donald Trump’s push to deport one million people. This is not an accident. It’s a mass deportation machine — and families are being torn apart in the process.

Across the country, thousands of people are locked inside ICE detention centers. Detainees report overcrowding, prolonged confinement, lack of medical care, and inhumane conditions. U.S. citizens — including children — have been swept up. Judges order people released. ICE ignores those rulings and locks up more people anyway.

That’s a constitutional crisis.

On March 3, Kristi Noem, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Congress must use this moment to demand answers — and accountability.

We are calling on the United States Congress to immediately launch a full investigation into ICE’s pattern of illegal detention and defiance of court orders. Lawmakers must subpoena records, compel testimony from DHS and ICE leadership, and hold public hearings that expose how this agency has been allowed to break the law thousands of times.

Congress has the power — and the duty — to stop this.

Sign now to demand a full congressional investigation, an end to unlawful detention, and real oversight of ICE. Tell lawmakers to enforce court orders, halt detention expansion, and protect due process for everyone.
