Congress Must Investigate Energy Market Manipulation

Americans deserve an energy system that is fair, transparent, and free from corruption. But as Common Dreams reports, troubling questions have been raised about potential market manipulation involving Energy Secretary Chris Wright and policies that could benefit powerful fossil fuel interests.

When those responsible for regulating energy markets appear to have financial or political incentives that could distort prices, the consequences can be severe. Market manipulation can drive up electricity and fuel costs for families, destabilize energy markets, and undermine public trust in government oversight.

Public officials must be held to the highest ethical standards. If there are credible allegations that government power is being used to influence markets for private or political gain, Congress has a responsibility to investigate.

Lawmakers must conduct a full and transparent inquiry into these allegations, determine whether any laws or ethical rules were violated, and ensure that the public interest — not corporate profit — guides U.S. energy policy.

Add your name to demand Congress investigate the Energy Secretary and protect Americans from market manipulation.

Accountability is essential to democracy. By insisting on transparency and oversight now, we can help ensure that our energy system works for the public — not for insiders with the power to rig the market.
