During a contentious Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on March 3, lawmakers from both parties pressed Kristi Noem over deadly immigration enforcement operations, misleading statements to Congress, and troubling questions about DHS contracts connected to political allies.

The criticism didn’t come only from Democrats. Several Republican senators sharply questioned Noem’s judgment and handling of the department, raising concerns about transparency, decision-making, and whether Congress had been misled about key DHS activities. The bipartisan backlash underscored how serious the allegations against the department have become.

Additional reporting has raised further questions about whether DHS provided the Senate with inaccurate information about contracts tied to political operatives and consultants with connections to department leadership.
