Celebrate the Win for the Department of Education!

A major victory for public education, civil service, and the rule of law!

We applaud the legal efforts of Washington Attorney General Nick Brown, Democratic attorneys general across the country, the American Federation of Teachers, and local school districts for successfully blocking President Trump’s executive order to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education.

Thanks to their leadership, U.S. District Judge Myong Joun has ordered the immediate reinstatement of over a thousand federal education employees and put a halt to one of the most dangerous overreaches in this administration’s effort to gut public institutions.

This ruling safeguards critical programs that support students with disabilities, distribute financial aid, and enforce civil rights in schools. It’s a powerful reminder that no president can simply erase a federal department by executive order—and that when we fight for our values, we win.
