Celebrate the Victory for Reproductive Freedom in Alabama!

We celebrate and applaud the powerful ruling by U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson, who reaffirmed what should be undeniable: that people in Alabama cannot be criminalized for helping others access legal abortion care in other states.

This ruling is a critical victory for reproductive freedom, free speech, and the constitutional right to travel. It sends a clear message that no state—including Alabama—has the authority to reach across borders and punish its residents for engaging in legal activity elsewhere.

By siding with the Yellowhammer Fund and medical professionals, Judge Thompson has protected the ability of people—especially those with fewer resources—to receive the care they need without fear, shame, or criminalization. His thoughtful opinion drew a powerful comparison: if Alabama cannot prosecute residents for planning a bachelor party in Las Vegas, it certainly cannot prosecute them for helping someone obtain an abortion where it remains legal.

This decision also serves as a resounding rejection of efforts by the Alabama attorney general to intimidate those who stand in solidarity with pregnant people. It recognizes that supporting someone’s health and autonomy is not a crime—it is an act of compassion and justice.

We thank the Yellowhammer Fund, the courageous plaintiffs, and the advocates who brought this challenge forward. And we thank Judge Thompson for upholding the Constitution and drawing a clear line against government overreach.

Today is, indeed, a good day—for reproductive justice, for liberty, and for every person who believes in the right to make decisions about their own body, no matter where they live.
