Celebrate the Ruling Restoring Environmental Justice Grants

A federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration’s attempt to terminate $600 million in environmental justice grants was unlawful, affirming that the EPA cannot defy Congress to roll back protections for low-income neighborhoods and communities of color.

These Thriving Communities grants, created through the Inflation Reduction Act, were designed to help local organizations tackle pollution, toxic exposure, and health disparities in the places that need it most. The court’s decision reinstates vital funding for programs that address lead contamination, air quality, and other critical issues harming public health.
