Celebrate the Court Blocking Trump’s Welfare Freeze

A federal judge just delivered a major win for working families and the programs they rely on to survive. A Manhattan judge issued a temporary restraining order blocking the Trump administration from freezing $10 billion in critical welfare and child care funding for New York, California, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota — funding that supports some of the most essential anti-poverty programs in the country.

These funds help keep child care centers open, support parents working or going to school, and provide services for low-income families, children, and people with disabilities. The Trump administration tried to halt this funding with no legitimate justification, putting vulnerable communities at immediate risk and threatening to rip away support families depend on to make ends meet.

But these states fought back — and the court stepped in to stop the chaos. This ruling is a powerful reminder that presidents can’t override Congress, punish states for political reasons, or play games with resources that protect children and families.

Add your name to celebrate this victory — and applaud the attorneys general and leaders who stood up for working families, defended vital safety net programs, and stopped Trump’s reckless funding freeze.
