A huge win for reproductive rights! We applaud Judge Sima Patel for overturning Michigan’s 24-hour abortion waiting period — a medically unnecessary delay that only served to burden patients and stigmatize care.

This ruling reaffirms what Michigan voters made clear in 2022 when they passed a constitutional amendment protecting reproductive freedom: the state cannot impose politically motivated barriers to abortion care. Judge Patel also struck down outdated and coercive mandates, including the required distribution of fetal development charts and physician-only rules that limited access to care.
