We celebrate the federal court’s decision to block the Trump administration’s policy allowing immigration enforcement operations in houses of worship. Judge Theodore Chang’s ruling affirms the importance of religious freedom and protects sacred spaces from becoming sites of fear and intimidation. For decades, churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples have provided sanctuary and support for immigrants, offering resources, aid, and a sense of community. The attempt to strip away protections for these spaces was not only a violation of long-standing policies but also an attack on fundamental religious liberties. This ruling is a victory for immigrant rights, religious freedom, and the separation of church and state. While the fight is not over, we stand with faith leaders and advocates who continue to defend the rights of all people to worship and seek refuge without fear of government intrusion. Thank you to the plaintiffs, faith communities, and legal teams who stood up against this policy. We will continue to fight for justice, dignity, and safety for all.
