Celebrate Court Blocking Trump’s Unlawful Prosecutor Pick

In a major win for fairness, stability, and the rule of law, a federal appeals court has upheld the disqualification of Alina Habba — Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer — from serving as New Jersey’s top federal prosecutor. The court found that Trump’s administration used “novel” and illegal maneuvers to keep Habba in the role long after her temporary appointment expired, violating federal vacancy laws.

The ruling makes clear: the Justice Department cannot be twisted into a political weapon. Judges from both Republican and Democratic administrations agreed that New Jersey’s residents deserve lawful appointments, independent prosecutors, and a justice system free from political interference.

Habba’s disqualification follows other recent court decisions tossing out prosecutions brought by unlawfully installed Trump prosecutors — further proof that the judiciary is pushing back against partisan attempts to undermine federal law.

This is a positive step toward restoring integrity, accountability, and stability to one of the nation’s most important U.S. Attorney’s Offices.
