Celebrate Court Blocking Trump’s Planned Parenthood Cuts

In a major victory for health care, reproductive freedom, and millions of low-income patients, a federal judge has blocked Donald Trump’s attempt to strip Medicaid funding from Planned Parenthood and similar providers across 22 states and Washington, D.C.

Judge Indira Talwani ruled that Trump’s new provision — buried in his signature tax and domestic policy bill — is likely unconstitutional and would unlawfully force states to cut off trusted providers without clear notice or authority. The law threatened lifesaving services like birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing, and routine preventive care. Judge Talwani called it exactly what it is: “impermissibly ambiguous,” harmful, and likely illegal.

Democratic attorneys general from states like California, Connecticut, and New York led the lawsuit, arguing that Trump’s policy violated the Constitution’s Spending Clause and would skyrocket state health costs by reducing access to essential care. Planned Parenthood reports the law has already begun to devastate communities — with at least 20 health centers forced to close.
