Celebrate Biden’s New National Monuments in California

We are thrilled to celebrate President Biden’s commitment to conservation with the upcoming designations of the Chuckwalla National Monument near Joshua Tree National Park and the Sáttítla National Monument in Northern California. These actions are a monumental step in protecting our nation’s natural treasures for future generations.

The Chuckwalla National Monument will create the largest contiguous protected area in the country, safeguarding nearly 644,000 acres of land from mining, drilling, and logging while preserving critical ecosystems and Native American heritage. The Sáttítla National Monument further highlights the administration’s dedication to protecting culturally and ecologically significant sites.

These designations align with the goal to conserve 30% of U.S. lands and waters by 2030 and mark another meaningful use of the Antiquities Act to address climate change, support biodiversity, and honor the voices of Indigenous communities and environmental advocates.
