CBS News is supposed to expose political spin — not repeat it.

But now, a former 60 Minutes correspondent is speaking out publicly about what happened inside the newsroom under Bari Weiss. And CBS News is facing disturbing accusations that 60 Minutes journalists were pressured to bend stories toward Trump’s preferred narrative.

Former 60 Minutes correspondent Cecilia Vega says executives pushed Trump-friendly framing into coverage of SNAP cuts, ICE, and Iran. In one case, she says leadership wanted footage of protesters attacking plainclothes ICE officers added to a story — even though her team found that footage did not exist.

But since Weiss took power at CBS News, 60 Minutes has seen a purge of Trump critics and veteran journalists. Weiss was reportedly involved in spiking stories that would have put Trump’s administration under scrutiny. And the network has shifted sharply right.

When executives pressure journalists to soften or distort the truth, the public pays the price. We deserve honest reporting as public health plummets, prices skyrocket, and our family members are shipped off to war.

CBS News does not need a lead propagandist. It needs journalists free to tell the truth. And we need to put pressure on Paramount and CBS leadership to restore the newsroom's independence.
