Block Trump’s Election Denier Pick to Lead DHS

Donald Trump has fired Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and replaced her with one of his most loyal political allies: Senator Markwayne Mullin.

Now the U.S. Senate must decide whether to confirm Mullin as the next secretary of homeland security — putting him in charge of one of the most powerful agencies in the federal government.

But Mullin’s record raises serious alarms, especially when it comes to defending American democracy.

After the 2020 election, Mullin promoted the false claim that the election was stolen from Donald Trump and echoed conspiracy theories about widespread voter fraud. These baseless claims were rejected by courts, election officials, and bipartisan experts across the country — yet Mullin continued pushing them anyway.

Now Trump wants to hand an election denier enormous authority over homeland security, disaster response, cybersecurity, and immigration enforcement. That should concern every American who believes in free and fair elections.

Mullin has also embraced some of the most extreme anti-immigrant policies in modern politics. In a national television interview, he argued that babies born in the United States to undocumented parents — children who are U.S. citizens under the Constitution — should be deported alongside their parents.

DHS isn’t supposed to be a reward for political loyalty or MAGA extremism. It is responsible for protecting civil liberties, responding to disasters, securing our elections, and safeguarding millions of people who live in the United States.

Putting an election denier with a record of promoting extreme immigration policies in charge of that mission would be reckless and dangerous.

Add your name to demand that the U.S. Senate reject Markwayne Mullin’s nomination for secretary of homeland security.

The petition to the U.S. Senate reads: “Reject Markwayne Mullin’s nomination for secretary of homeland security. Americans deserve a leader who respects the Constitution, accepts the results of democratic elections, and will protect our country without pushing dangerous conspiracy theories or extreme anti-immigrant policies.”
