Bar Donald Trump From Federal Office

Democratic Congressman David Cicilline recently introduced legislation to prohibit Donald Trump from holding federal office, including the presidency.

The legislation is based on Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states, "No person shall … hold any office, civil or military, under the United States … who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof."

The legislation, which was immediately sponsored by 40 members of the House of Representatives, details Trump’s role in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
