Freshwater systems are failing throughout the United States. Across the Great Plains region, communities, businesses, farmers, and ranchers are experiencing record droughts and floods. In the western US, iconic rivers like the Rio Grande are running drier and drier. Without urgent intervention, our region’s freshwater ecosystems—and the people and species that depend on them—will face devastating consequences. By signing the petition, you'll be supporting funding for freshwater programs in the Rio Grande basin and Great Plains region, while also joining our Give an Hour for Earth campaign and pledging yourself to turn one hour of your time this month into a positive impact on our planet. This action is only open to US residents residing in Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Texas. Dear Member of Congress, This Congress, I urge you to support US funding for programs that restore and conserve freshwater ecosystems across the Rio Grande basin and the Great Plains region. These freshwater ecosystems underpin the health and prosperity of our economies, and urgent action is needed to address the increasing failure of these critical systems. Farmers and ranchers in the Great Plains region are experiencing record droughts and floods and iconic rivers like the Rio Grande are increasingly running dry. Pollution, over-extraction, and habitat loss are pushing countless species toward extinction, from migratory birds to fish. As your constituent, I see these impacts first-hand and ask you to support and fund critical freshwater programs, including voluntary, incentive-based Farm Bill conservation programs, and programs to help restore and protect the Rio Grande—for farmers, ranchers, and species that depend upon freshwater ecosystems. I urge you to make this issue a priority this Congress and partner with conservationists, businesses, farmers, ranchers, and other leaders to help us solve this challenge.
