Applaud the States Fighting Cuts to Homelessness Funds

In a major stand for compassion and stability, 19 attorneys general and two governors have sued the Trump administration to stop devastating cuts to permanent housing for people experiencing homelessness. Led by New York Attorney General Letitia James, the coalition is fighting to block illegal new conditions that would slash funding, increase homelessness, and discriminate against organizations that support transgender and nonbinary people.

The Continuum of Care program keeps tens of thousands of Americans safely housed every night. Trump’s new rules would cap permanent housing support at just 30% of funding — putting over 170,000 people at risk of losing their homes. These states are stepping up to defend vulnerable families, protect LGBTQ+ rights, and keep lifesaving housing services intact.

Their message is clear: housing is a lifeline, and no administration has the right to take it away.
