Applaud the Ruling Restoring NIH Diversity Research Grants

This is a landmark win for science, equity, and the rule of law: A federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration’s termination of NIH grants for diversity-related research was “void and illegal.”

Judge William Young, a Reagan appointee, reinstated over $1 billion in funding and directly called out the administration’s actions as discriminatory toward racial minorities and LGBTQ people. He declared: “Any discrimination by our government is so wrong that it requires the court to enjoin it.”

This decision is a powerful reminder that public health research must be guided by science and justice—not political ideology.
