Applaud the Judge for Protecting Mail-In Voting

U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani has blocked the U.S. Postal Service from implementing part of Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at imposing new requirements on states before the USPS would deliver mail ballots.

The decision expands protections beyond an earlier ruling that prevented the administration from implementing the policy in 23 mostly Democratic-led states. Voting rights groups argued that broader action was necessary to prevent the federal government from using the Postal Service to interfere with how states administer elections.

Millions of Americans depend on voting by mail, including seniors, people with disabilities, military families, rural voters, caregivers, and working people. The Postal Service should help Americans exercise their right to vote—not be used as leverage to force states to comply with new federal election demands.
