Applaud the Fight for a Living Wage from Senate Democrats

No one who works full time should struggle to afford the basics — and the lawmakers fighting for higher wages deserve applause.

Senate Democrats have introduced legislation to gradually raise the federal minimum wage to $25 an hour, recognizing that millions of hardworking Americans are being left behind as the cost of housing, groceries, healthcare, and other essentials continues to rise.

For nearly two decades, the federal minimum wage has remained stuck at $7.25 an hour, even as the cost of living has climbed dramatically. Today, millions of workers—including caregivers, retail employees, food service workers, healthcare staff, and other essential workers—earn less than what it takes to support themselves and their families.

A fair wage means more than just a paycheck. It means greater financial security, stronger local economies, and the ability for working people to pay their bills, save for the future, and provide for their loved ones with dignity.

This proposal also recognizes that workers deserve wages that keep pace with the economy, helping ensure that people who work hard are not left falling further behind year after year.

Working full time should be a pathway to stability—not poverty.
