Applaud the Democrats Who Voted to Hold DHS Accountable

When government agencies abuse their power, Congress has a duty to step in. That’s exactly what all but a handful of Democrats in Congress did.

They voted to block a Department of Homeland Security funding bill that would have handed the agency a blank check—without addressing serious concerns about immigration enforcement, civil rights violations, and leadership failures inside DHS.

Since Trump's second term began, troubling reports about aggressive immigration raids and a lack of transparency have raised alarms across the country. Yet Republican leaders pushed forward with a funding bill that ignored those concerns and offered no meaningful reforms.

Nearly every Democrat in Congress refused to rubber-stamp it.

That vote sent a clear message: Congress must hold powerful agencies accountable before approving more funding.

Too often, Washington rewards politicians who stay quiet and go along. This time, all but a few congressional Democrats chose to stand together and demand better from the Department of Homeland Security.
