Applaud the Court’s Order Releasing Critical Climate Funds

We applaud U.S. District Judge Mary McElroy for her decisive ruling ordering the Trump administration to immediately unfreeze funds authorized under the Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act — two historic, climate-focused laws passed during the Biden administration.

Judge McElroy’s ruling is a powerful affirmation of the rule of law, congressional authority, and the rights of communities to receive the support they were promised. Her order not only mandates the release of crucial climate and infrastructure investments but also blocks any further attempts to obstruct this funding under a different name.

This decision brings long-overdue relief to environmental nonprofits and communities that depend on these resources to combat climate change, build clean energy projects, and improve infrastructure across the country. As Judge McElroy rightly noted, “agencies do not have unlimited authority to further a President’s agenda,” especially when it undermines duly passed legislation.
