Applaud the Court Protecting Religious Freedom in Texas

In a major win for religious freedom, a federal judge has blocked Texas’ dangerous new law that would have forced every public school classroom to display the Ten Commandments.

Judge Fred Biery ruled that the mandate likely violates the First Amendment’s protections of religious liberty, warning that the law could coerce students into religious observance and suppress their own beliefs. Families from diverse faiths and backgrounds — Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Unitarian Universalist, and nonreligious — brought this case, standing up for the right of parents, not politicians, to guide their children’s spiritual education.

This decision affirms a basic principle: public schools must remain inclusive spaces where every child, regardless of their faith or non-faith, feels welcome. By striking down this unconstitutional overreach, the court protected both freedom of religion and freedom from government-imposed religion.
