Applaud the Appeals Court for Halting Federal Workforce Cuts

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a lower court's ruling to block the Trump administration’s sweeping plan to downsize the federal workforce. This decision keeps critical protections in place for tens of thousands of federal employees while a legal challenge from unions and cities plays out in court.

In a split decision, the court rightly recognized that mass layoffs across key agencies — from veterans’ health care to food safety — could have dangerous ripple effects. The ruling puts the brakes on a reckless attempt to remake the federal government without congressional approval.
