Applaud States Suing Trump to Stop Unlawful Tariffs

We applaud the courageous decision by twelve states to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration's reckless and unlawful tariff policies.

Led by attorneys general from Oregon, Arizona, Connecticut, and others, this legal challenge calls out President Trump's misuse of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose tariffs that function as tax hikes on working families and small businesses. These chaotic policies have sown economic instability, inflated prices, and undermined constitutional checks and balances.

As Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes rightly said, the administration’s tariff scheme is “economically reckless” and “illegal.” And as Connecticut Attorney General William Tong pointed out, these tariffs are nothing less than “a massive tax on Connecticut families.”
