We applaud the bold leadership of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the 19 other states that have taken a stand against the Trump administration’s harmful decision to cancel the visas of hundreds of international students, faculty, and researchers. The mass revocation of student visas—often without clear justification and allegedly tied to peaceful protest or minor infractions—represents an alarming overreach and a threat to civil liberties, academic freedom, and due process. These actions jeopardize the futures of more than 500 individuals across 88 colleges and universities, including over two dozen students at the University of Wisconsin–Madison alone. Our international students are vital members of our academic communities, enriching classrooms and research labs, building cultural bridges, and contributing to innovation across every field. They deserve transparency, fairness, and protection from politically motivated crackdowns. We commend the attorneys general and state leaders who are standing up for these students' rights, pushing back against unjust visa cancellations, and defending the core American values of justice, education, and inclusion. We urge all leaders, institutions, and citizens to join us in supporting this legal challenge and ensuring the United States remains a welcoming place for students from around the world.
