Applaud State Lawmakers for Protecting Abortion Clinics

We applaud the Democratic lawmakers across the country who are stepping up to protect abortion clinics, providers, and patients in the face of escalating threats and a dangerous rollback of federal enforcement under the Trump administration.

As anti-abortion activists ramp up harassment and push legal challenges to long-standing protections, these state leaders are fighting back. By introducing legislation to restrict clinic harassment, enhance criminal penalties for intimidation, and increase funding for clinic security, they are taking bold and necessary action to keep people safe.

This surge of support follows President Trump’s decision to pardon violent anti-abortion protesters and limit enforcement of the federal FACE Act, which protects access to reproductive health care. At a time when abortion providers are facing renewed threats—including organized efforts to storm and shut down clinics—state lawmakers are refusing to stand by.

We thank leaders like California Attorney General Rob Bonta, who said it best: “We will take up the mantle of safety and access that they [the federal government] are abandoning.”

By standing firm, these lawmakers are defending bodily autonomy, reproductive rights, and the safety of all who seek and provide abortion care. As extremist legal groups attempt to strip away protections and embolden clinic harassment, we need local and state governments to lead with courage and compassion.
