Applaud Small Businesses Challenging Trump’s Tariffs

We applaud the courageous stand taken by the small businesses and legal advocates who are challenging President Donald Trump’s sweeping use of tariff powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

By filing suit in the U.S. Court of International Trade, these businesses are defending not just their livelihoods, but the constitutional balance of power. Tariffs are taxes that impact global supply chains, small business operations, and consumer prices—and the power to impose them should not rest with one individual. As the lawsuit rightly argues, the Constitution gives Congress—not the President—the authority to set tax rates and enact tariffs.

These small businesses have been “severely harmed” by tariffs imposed under questionable legal grounds. Their legal challenge is a necessary pushback against executive overreach and a defense of both economic freedom and democratic governance.

We commend the Liberty Justice Center and the companies involved for stepping forward to uphold the rule of law. We also support the ongoing efforts of groups like the New Civil Liberties Alliance, which are reinforcing the case that emergency economic powers cannot be abused to bypass Congress and disrupt global trade.

In standing up to unlawful tariffs, these business owners are standing up for fairness, accountability, and the rights of all Americans to thrive in a stable, rules-based economy. We proudly support their fight and call on the courts to restore the proper limits on presidential power.
