Applaud Senate Democrats for Blocking Trump’s Global Tariffs

Democrats in the Senate are standing up for American workers, consumers, and the rule of law — voting to block Donald Trump’s reckless global tariff scheme.

Led by Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon, Democrats rallied together to pass a resolution rejecting Trump’s so-called “Liberation Day” tariffs, which slapped a blanket 10% tax on goods imported from every country. These sweeping tariffs threatened to raise prices on working families, disrupt small businesses, and spark new trade wars — all without legal justification.

In a 51–47 bipartisan vote, Democrats and a handful of Republicans joined forces to deliver a clear rebuke of Trump’s abuse of emergency powers. As Senator Wyden declared, “The Senate is not a spectator to the workings of the federal government. Congress has clear authority over trade — not the president alone.”

By passing this resolution, Democrats reaffirmed their commitment to checks and balances, economic fairness, and protecting Americans from political overreach. Their leadership shows that accountability and stability still have champions in Washington.
