Applaud Ro Khanna for Fighting Trump’s Wasteful Spending

Americans deserve a government that invests taxpayer dollars in their needs—not nearly $1 billion in White House construction projects—and Congressman Ro Khanna deserves applause for demanding Congress step in.

After reports revealed that Donald Trump’s planned construction projects on White House grounds could cost at least $927 million, Khanna called on Republicans in Congress to “do their jobs” and block the spending. The projects reportedly include Trump’s massive ballroom, a new helipad, visitor screening center, upgrades to Lafayette Square, and other construction.

At a time when families are struggling with the costs of healthcare, housing, groceries, and education, taxpayers deserve transparency and accountability over how their money is spent. Congress has a responsibility to oversee federal spending and ensure public funds serve the American people—not presidential vanity projects.

The White House is the People’s House, and major, expensive changes to it should receive proper congressional scrutiny rather than being pushed forward without meaningful oversight.

By speaking out, Khanna and his Democratic colleagues are demanding accountability and putting the needs of working families ahead of extravagant White House construction.
