Applaud Rep. Torres for Challenging Trump’s Qatar Jet Deal

We stand with Rep. Ritchie Torres in demanding a full ethics review of President Trump’s plan to accept a $400 million luxury jet from the government of Qatar for use as Air Force One—and later as a personal asset for his presidential library.

This unprecedented arrangement raises serious constitutional and ethical red flags. No president should be allowed to personally benefit from a gift of this magnitude from a foreign government—especially one with a deeply troubling history of funding terrorism. As Rep. Torres rightly points out, this “flying grift” could violate the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, which prohibits federal officials from accepting gifts from foreign states.

Rep. Torres has called on the Government Accountability Office, the Office of Government Ethics, and the Department of Defense to immediately investigate this proposed gift, provide an advisory opinion, and recommend reforms to prevent future abuses.

We applaud Rep. Torres’s courage and commitment to defending democratic integrity, government transparency, and constitutional accountability. The American people deserve answers—and action.
