California Governor Gavin Newsom is speaking out after President Trump suggested during a midterm rally that he would allow Iran to “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego. Newsom quickly condemned Trump's remarks and called for the 25th Amendment, declaring, “TIME FOR THE 25TH!” His response followed an earlier statement in which he described Trump as “deranged and dangerous.” Newsom wasn’t the only leader pushing back. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said Trump's comments were dangerous and could potentially compromise public safety, while San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria told the president to keep his city out of his “reckless war talk.” Even Republican Jim Desmond, who is running for a San Diego-area House seat, rejected Trump's remarks. “No American city is expendable, and no American family should ever be treated as collateral damage,” Desmond said. The White House disputed the interpretation of Trump's comments, arguing that he was saying American cities could have been threatened if Iran had not been stopped. But Newsom and other California leaders are making clear that they believe rhetoric involving potential attacks on American cities should be taken seriously. Add your name to applaud Governor Newsom for speaking out against Trump's remarks and calling for the 25th Amendment!
