Applaud Minnesota for Demanding Accountability

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is suing Texas Governor Greg Abbott in an effort to extradite ICE agent Christian Castro, who faces criminal charges stemming from a January incident in Minneapolis.

Prosecutors allege that Castro fired at the front door of a home, shooting Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in the leg and sending a bullet into a child’s bedroom wall. Castro has been charged with assault and falsely reporting a crime, but Governor Abbott has so far refused Minnesota’s request to return him to the state to face those charges.

This should not be a partisan question. When someone is accused of breaking the law, the justice system should be allowed to do its job. A federal badge cannot become a shield from accountability, and political officials should not be able to obstruct a legitimate prosecution simply because they support the agency or administration involved.

Attorney General Ellison is standing up for a basic principle of equal justice: law enforcement officers must be accountable to the same laws they are entrusted to enforce.

Minnesotans deserve answers, the alleged victim deserves his day in court, and the serious charges against Castro deserve to be heard through the legal process—not blocked by political interference.

Add your name to applaud Attorney General Keith Ellison for demanding accountability, fighting to ensure Christian Castro faces the charges against him, and standing up for the principle that no one is above the law.
