Applaud Judge Protecting TPS for Ethiopians

A federal judge just stood up for the rule of law and immigrant communities — and it deserves recognition.

Judge Brian Murphy blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for thousands of Ethiopians, ensuring that more than 5,000 people can remain safely in the United States as the legal challenge moves forward.

TPS exists to protect people from being forced back into dangerous conditions — including conflict and humanitarian crises. This ruling recognizes that those protections cannot be stripped away arbitrarily or without following the law.

The decision also reinforces a critical principle: no president can override the laws set by Congress or ignore the proper process when people’s lives are on the line.

For thousands of families, this means stability, safety, and the ability to keep building their lives without fear.
