Applaud Judge for Defending DACA Protections

A federal judge is standing up for justice, due process, and the promises made to immigrant communities — and it’s worth celebrating.

U.S. District Judge Dena Coggins ordered the Trump administration to bring back Maria de Jesus Estrada Juarez, a DACA recipient who was wrongfully deported despite having active protections. The judge called the deportation a “flagrant violation” of DACA and a breach of her constitutional rights.

Maria has lived in the U.S. for decades, raising a U.S. citizen daughter and building her life here. Yet she was detained and deported in less than 24 hours while trying to follow the legal process to secure permanent residency. This ruling makes clear: our government cannot ignore its own laws or strip people of their rights without accountability.

This is about more than one family. It’s about defending the integrity of DACA, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring that immigrant communities are treated with fairness and dignity.
