Applaud Jamie Raskin for Fighting Trump’s $1.7 Billion Fund

Rep. Jamie Raskin is standing up to protect taxpayers, defend congressional oversight, and stop what critics are calling a massive abuse of public funds — and he deserves applause.

Raskin has introduced legislation to block Donald Trump’s controversial $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization” fund, which could be used to provide payouts connected to January 6 rioters and political allies.

At the same time, Democrats pushed for subpoenas and greater transparency after concerns emerged about how the fund was created and whether taxpayer money is being used without proper congressional authorization.

This fight is about accountability and the Constitution. Congress — not any president acting alone — controls public spending.

No administration should be allowed to create secretive slush funds, bypass oversight, or redirect taxpayer dollars for political purposes.
