Illinois leaders are standing up for equality, privacy, and the dignity of LGBTQ+ people — and they deserve applause. Governor JB Pritzker has signed three new laws that expand protections for LGBTQ+ Illinoisans, helping safeguard access to healthcare, protect personal privacy, and ensure that people can live as their authentic selves. The new laws prevent certain gender-affirming medications from being added to a state prescription monitoring database, preserve the ability for Illinois residents to choose the gender marker that best reflects their identity on state-issued IDs, and require insurance companies to provide six months of prescribed hormone therapy. Every person deserves the freedom to access medically necessary healthcare, have their identity respected, and live without unnecessary government intrusion into deeply personal decisions. At a time when LGBTQ+ rights are under attack in many parts of the country, Illinois is demonstrating that states can choose inclusion, compassion, and equal protection under the law. Add your name to applaud Illinois leaders for protecting LGBTQ+ rights, defending access to healthcare, and standing up for equality and human dignity.
