Applaud Illinois for Putting Working People First

Governor JB Pritzker has signed a series of new laws that include requiring most in-person businesses to accept cash for purchases under $500 and requiring larger employers to pay workers their full wages while they serve on jury duty.

These changes recognize two simple principles: people should have the freedom to choose how they pay for everyday purchases, and workers should not have to sacrifice their paycheck in order to fulfill an important civic responsibility.

Illinois is also taking steps to make CPR training more inclusive, expand resources for human trafficking survivors, improve transparency in higher education, and strengthen access to appropriate mental health care.

Good government is about making life a little easier, fairer, and safer for the people it serves. These new laws show how practical reforms can protect workers, strengthen communities, and remove unnecessary barriers from daily life.
